Ten views

One project, ten ways to see it

List, Board, Table, Calendar, Workload — all drag-and-drop, all live-synced, none of them behind a paywall. Same tasks, whichever lens your brain likes. Need another angle? Timeline, Mind Map, Whiteboard, Canvas and Map ship too.

Same tasks. Five core lenses. Drag and drop everywhere.

Everything included

The “Business plan” features, free forever

Custom fields in 12+ types, dashboards, sprints, milestones, analytics, and 40+ granular permissions — the stuff other tools lock behind an upgrade button ships standard here.

AI Assistant

Describe the goal and AlianHub drafts the plan — task descriptions, sub-tasks, epics, even whole sprints. Write with AI, ship with your team.

Sprints & Agile

Plan the sprint, drag in the backlog, and watch the burndown fall in real time. Roll unfinished work forward when you close out.

Built-in Chat & Channels

Channels, DMs, and @mentions live right next to the work, synced live to every teammate. Decisions stay attached to tasks — not lost in another tool.

Custom Fields

Money, rating, people, dropdown — 12+ field types that shape tasks around your workflow, not the other way around. Every single one is free.

Dashboards & Reports

Live dashboards, milestone tracking, and performance analytics your stakeholders will actually read. Search and filter it all in under 0.008 seconds.

40+ Granular Permissions

Role-based access with 40+ dynamic permissions — down to who can export a report or delete a task. Guests see exactly what you allow, nothing more.

Native time tracking

Know where every hour actually goes

Timesheets, capacity planning, optional screenshot and activity monitoring, and desktop trackers for Windows, macOS, and Linux — built in, not bolted on.

  • Native timers & timesheets. Start a timer on any task — hours roll up into weekly timesheets on their own.

  • Optional screenshots & activity monitoring. Proof-of-work when you need it, privacy when you don't — toggle it per project.

  • Workload & capacity planning. Spot who's overloaded before the sprint slips — not in the retro.

  • Works everywhere your team does. Browser, desktop app, or straight from a task card — always in live sync.

Desktop time tracker for every OS

AI Assistant

Type the goal. AI builds the plan.

Write with AI drafts the descriptions nobody enjoys writing, then generates tasks, sub-tasks, epics, task links, and whole sprints — inside a platform that runs on your server.

  • Write task descriptions with AI. A one-line prompt becomes a clear, structured brief.

  • Generate tasks, sub-tasks & checklists. Big goals broken into real work items in seconds.

  • Create epics & task links automatically. AI wires the dependencies for you. v14.7

  • Plan entire sprints in one prompt. Scoped, sequenced, and ready to assign.

  • Project templates for marketing, sales & engineering. Start every project halfway done.

Collaboration

Built-in chat. One less subscription.

Channels, @mentions, and comments sync live over Socket.io, so every conversation stays glued to the task it’s about. Go ahead, close the extra chat app.

  • Chat & channels, built right in

Team channels live beside your projects — no extra tool to buy, no context lost between tabs.

  • Comments & @mentions on every task

Tag a teammate on the exact sub-task they need to see. They get pinged, you get an answer.

  • Real-time live sync over websockets

Changes appear the instant they happen — no refresh, no “did you see my message?”

  • 40+ permissions decide who sees what

Dynamic RBAC keeps client channels, budgets, and private threads exactly as private as you want.

Teams that took their data back

What teams say after the per-seat invoice hits zero and the feature list doesn’t shrink.

Left Jira

“With per-seat pricing, every new hire made the invoice bigger. We moved 40 people to AlianHub over one weekend — search comes back before I finish typing, and the invoice is now zero.”

PPriyaEngineering Lead, 40-person team
Replaced 3 tools

“We were juggling ClickUp for tasks, a separate tracker for client hours, and yet another app for chat. AlianHub folded all three into one — timesheets sit right next to the tasks, and billable hours are ready for invoicing every Friday.”

MMarcoOps Manager, 25-person agency
Data on-prem

“Compliance said customer data can’t leave our infrastructure. Full stop. I pulled the Docker Compose file on a Tuesday morning and we were live on our own servers before standup ended. The auditors are happy — and so is the budget.”

SSaraCTO, fintech scale-up

“We read the source before we deployed it — every permission check, every API route. Try doing that with Jira.”

Fair questions, straight answers

The “what’s the catch” section — licensing, deployment, data ownership, and what free forever actually means, before you commit to nothing.

Is AlianHub really free?

Yes — genuinely. Self-hosted AlianHub is free forever under AGPL-3.0: unlimited users, unlimited projects, every feature included, no trial clock and no seat limits. If you’d rather not run a server, optional cloud hosting is $10/user/mo — or $7.75/user/mo billed annually.

How hard is it to self-host?

If you can paste one command, you can host AlianHub: docker compose up -d pulls prebuilt GHCR images for amd64 and arm64 and you’re live. Prefer bare metal? Build from source with npm run setup. The step-by-step walkthrough is in the deploy guide on GitHub.

What do I give up vs Jira, ClickUp or Asana?

Mainly the invoice. Built-in chat and channels, 12+ custom field types, AI writing and task generation, native time tracking, dashboards and sprint management — the things the big names gate behind paid tiers — all ship free in AlianHub. You bring the server; you skip the per-seat pricing.

Is my data secure?

It never leaves your server. You control the database, the file storage (local disk or anything S3-compatible), the backups, and who sees what through 40+ dynamic permissions. And because the source is open, you can audit every line rather than trusting a compliance PDF.

Are there desktop apps?

Yes. There’s an Electron desktop app for the full platform, plus dedicated time-tracker apps for Windows, macOS and Linux — timesheets, capacity planning, and optional screenshot/activity monitoring included. Grab installers from the releases page.

What does AGPL-3.0 mean for us?

In plain language: you’re free to use, modify and self-host AlianHub for your team, forever, at no cost. The one obligation: if you distribute a modified version — including offering it to others as a service — you must share your changes under the same license. For genuine edge cases, a quick check with your counsel is the smart move.

Where do I get help?

Community support lives in the GitHub repository, alongside the docs in the repository — the project ships steadily, with v14.7.0 landing in July 2026. Cloud plans are hosted and supported directly by the Alian Software team.

Still weighing it up? Ask anything on GitHub — or skip the reading and poke around the live demo. No signup, no sales call.
