AI project risk management is less about prediction and more about attention: finding the overdue, blocked and overloaded work early, every week, without someone reading every board. In AlianHub you do that with the Ask box, Reporter digests, the Portfolio's "What is at risk" view and agents that propose fixes for a person to approve. Here is how to set it up and what it looks like in a real week.
Key takeaways
- Most project risk is visible early. It is just spread across too many tasks to notice.
- AI does not need to predict the future. It needs to read everything, every week.
- Ask "Find my urgent work" for your overdue, due-soon and high-priority tasks in one answer.
- A scheduled Reporter digest covers what moved, what is stuck and what is at risk.
- Agents can propose moving a stuck task to Blocked, and a person decides in the AI Inbox.
The three kinds of risk that sink projects
Most delivery problems fall into three groups:
| Risk | Early signal | Where AlianHub shows it |
|---|---|---|
| Schedule | Tasks overdue or due soon, milestones at risk | Ask, Home's Overdue section, Milestone Report |
| Flow | Tasks stuck or blocked, nobody moving them | Reporter digest, Board, AI Inbox proposals |
| Capacity | People booked past what they can do | Workload view, Capacity Planning, Ask |
None of these signals are hidden. The problem is that a project manager with six projects cannot read every task every day. That is the job to hand to AI.
The AlianHub AI features for risk
Ask: plain questions, scoped answers
The Ask box answers from the projects you can open, either everything or a single project. It never widens what you can see. Useful ready-made prompts include Find my urgent work (your open tasks that are overdue, due soon or high priority) and Project status update (what moved, what is stuck, what comes next).
You can also ask in your own words, such as "Who is over capacity next week?" Then use Research for a deeper answer, or Plan changes to turn the answer into proposed edits.
Reporter digests
The Reporter skill (digest.ceo) reads a project's open work and posts a short digest: what moved, what is stuck, what is at risk. It is low risk, so an agent at L3 can run it on a schedule, such as Monday at 09:00.
Portfolio "What is at risk"
For leaders, the Portfolio page shows every project as on track, at risk or off track, with a "What is at risk" list, team load and a burn-down. See it on the Reports and workspace page.
Risk Watch and team packs
The Product team pack includes a Risk Watch agent alongside a PRD Writer, Roadmap Keeper and Feedback Collector. Packs start paused. Browse them on the Teams page.
Your own AI
If you connect Claude, ChatGPT or Claude Code over MCP, your AI app can offer a ready-made ask called What is at risk. Like the others, it shows you a result first and changes nothing until you say yes.
Detection is half the job: approvals do the rest
Spotting a blocked task is useful. Acting on it safely is better. When an agent finds a stuck task, it can propose moving it to Blocked. Moving between lists is a wider change, so it waits in the AI Inbox.
You choose Approve or Decline. If you decline with a reason, the agent sees it. Every proposal, approval and refusal is written to the audit log.
Let AI raise the flag. Let a person decide what the flag means.
Tip: set risk agents to L1 for the first month. You will learn quickly which proposals are useful, and you can raise the level only for the actions you trust.
How to do this in AlianHub
- Open AI in the left menu and type "Find my urgent work" in the Ask box, scoped to Everything you can open.
- Choose Plan changes on the answer to turn it into proposed edits, or Hand it to an agent.
- Go to the Agents tab, pick an agent with the Reporter skill and run a Dry run in the skill library to preview its digest.
- Set the agent to L3 so it can run on a schedule. Set its daily action limit and monthly spend cap.
- Each week, open the AI Inbox and approve or decline its proposals, such as moving stuck tasks to Blocked.
- Open Portfolio from the More menu to review projects at risk or off track.
- Check AI > Audit log for every change, with Undo where it applies.
A business scenario: fewer surprise deadlines
An operations manager runs several projects for internal and client teams. Before, risk reviews meant opening each board on Friday afternoon, and slipped tasks were often discovered when the deadline had already passed.
Now a Reporter digest lands on each project every Monday, and the manager's own "Find my urgent work" check takes a minute. Stuck tasks come in as proposals in the AI Inbox rather than surprises. The manager spends review time on decisions, not searching, clients hear about changes earlier, and fewer deadlines are missed without warning.
Signals worth adding over time
Once the basics run, add a few deeper checks:
- Estimate drift: the Variance Report's "Where estimates drift most" check flags tasks with no description, changed estimates, more than one assignee or two days or more.
- Stale docs: the wiki.upkeep skill lists pages past their review date.
- Pull request risk: the pr.summary skill summarises a linked pull request and flags risk, once external reads are on.
- Capacity: the Workload view and Capacity Planning show who is over available hours.
What AI risk tools should not do
Good AI risk management has limits. In AlianHub, no agent can mark a task Done, delete a task or project, change permissions or remove a member. Those actions do not exist for agents. That keeps a risk agent from "fixing" a deadline by quietly closing the work. Read more on the AI controls page and in our guide to AI agents in project management.
FAQ
What is AI project risk management?
It is using AI to watch every project for early warning signs, such as overdue, blocked or overloaded work, and to raise them before deadlines slip. People still decide what to do about each risk.
Can AlianHub predict project delays?
AlianHub does not claim to forecast delays. It helps you see the signals that already exist, such as overdue tasks, stuck work and capacity, through Ask, digests, Portfolio and reports.
How do I get a weekly risk report automatically?
Use an agent with the Reporter skill at autonomy level L3, which can run on a schedule. It posts a digest of what moved, what is stuck and what is at risk.
Will the AI move or reassign tasks without asking?
Not by default. Moving tasks between lists and assigning work are wider changes that wait in the AI Inbox for a person to approve.
Set up your first risk digest in the live demo, self-host AlianHub free, and share this with the person who always finds out about delays last.
